Multiple Teams Working Together

How are multiple teams supposed to coordinate together when doing Agile?  The classic answer is Scrum-of-Scrums even though it has an horrendous track record.  Scrum-of-Scrums is a bottom-up approach based on team/peer coordination.  While we don't mean to suggest it can't work, we do suggest there are better ways.  We suggest companies should use Lean-thinking to create an holistic approach that provides a high-level context for all of the teams to work in. This excerpt from a talk Alan Shalloway gave at Agile 2012 describes how to coordinate multiple Scrum teams so that they can work together efficiently.
