The Four Reasons Only 32% of Software Development Projects Will Succeed this Year

Abstract

This talk explores why so many software development projects fail and what you need to do to make them succeed. To ensure success, you need to extend your methods to include the following:

  1. Proper project selection
  2. Taking a holistic view
  3. Attending to your company's culture
  4. Knowing when to abort
Overly focusing on the development team often misses the root cause of a project’s challenge. Successful projects must go beyond team methods and include the entire organization. Understanding the broader perspective required for success will help an organization improve on the real goal of software development – achieving more value delivered to their customers in a shorter period of time with less cost.
