Two Types of Learning Require Two Types of Coaching

There are two types of learning - learning how to do something and learning to avoid something. 

In 16 years being in the Agile community I have seen a persistence of bad habits and newbie errors.

Although many in the Agile community claim there is no predictability, these habits and errors can be predicted with the certainty of the sun coming up tomorrow. 

Learning how to do something, definitely takes experience and, well, doing it.  

But learning how not to do something often takes just a little guidance.  

The best coaches know when to let people figure things out for themselves and when to step in.
