The Source of Waste & How to Predict It

December 14, 2013 — Posted by Al Shalloway

This blog is a work in process.  However, some fellow SPCs who I've shown this to wanted the outline, so I am posting that here.

I expect to have a full-blog supporting this in the next days - which will replace this outline.

Waste comes from

  • Workflow delays
  • Feedback Delays
  • Lack of Collaboration
  • Fog

These are exacerbated by

  • Value stream impedance
    • Handoffs
    • Lack of co-location (more time zone differences worse it is)
    • Moving from one part of the organization to another
    • Lack of commitment of people to this value stream only
  • Value stream interdependencies
  • Large Batches
