Look to see the best way to get started

I don't believe in a one-size fits all. This is one reason we embed frameworks like Scrum and SAFe into a Lean-Agile Operating model when our clients want to use them. Our operating model creates a well defined start at either what Scrum and SAFe prescribe or enabling tailoring to the company a needed. The end states to achieve can also be different- again, according to what the clients need.

Using an operating model is critical for two reasons:

  1. it enables Scrum and/SAFe to be adapted as appropriate for the organization adopting it (and yes, this means you're not following SG Scrum, or even possibly SAFe)
  2. it enables you to tailor your adoption method to what fits the organization

This later one may be most important. A lot of what is perceived as resistance to Agile or Scrum has more to do with the lack of fit of how the framework requires a start with the culture of the organization. 

Operating models can be used not just for adjustments of the way a company works, but also for adjustments as to how they can be started.
