Be the change you want to see in the world - Scrum Version

Trust, respect and motivation are lacking in many Scrum adoptions. The question is why? All too often I hear coaches attribute it to the people. As an idealist who believes in systems thinking I attribute it to the system. What is stopping them from being engaged? You can't get your work done well without engaged systems. Much of people's behavior is affected by the system people are in. Culture of a company is a reflection of the system as well. Scrum's values are: commitment, courage, focus, openness and respect. Those helping teams adopt Scrum must both live them and help others achieve them.

This means as coaches we must be committed to our charges. It takes courage to take responsibility for what is happening and we must focus on the issues. By being open we encourage people to give us feedback and figure out what people need. And the ultimate respect is to know each of them want to do a great job.
