Net Objectives
Achieving Enterprise and Team Agility

Subscriber,
Hi, a lot of new stuff today. The theme of this month’s newsletter is Going Beyond an Agile Team. As great as Scrum is, at Net Objectives we assert you need more. This newsletter brings you some of that. We’ll give you opportunities to learn about Lean, myths and misconceptions of Scrum, even learn about databases in an Agile environment. Here’s a summary below:

Blog: Is Scrum Failing Us?
Podcast: Present and Possible in Software Development.
Book: Lean Software Development – Scaling Agile to the Enterprise.
Free Seminar – THIS THURSDAY in Bellevue, WA. The Agile Database
Free Webinar, Nov 10. The Test-Driven Database.
Free Mini-Conference in Atlanta: The Atlanta Agile Open.
Free Lean Software Development Course On-line.

Of course, the option I am most excited about and most encourage you to take advantage of is the on-line Lean Software Development course we are offering on-line, at no charge, starting in December. We’re presenting this because we strongly feel that the industry needs to embrace lean but hasn’t quite appreciated that fact.

Blog: Is Scrum Failing Us?
In this blog I mention many myths about and misconceptions of Scrum. Sometimes it’s important to use common sense to get beyond them. Sometimes it’s important to learn about something that’ll help.

Podcast: Present and Possible in Software Development.
The best way to make advances is not to create new knowledge, but to take advantage of knowledge gained elsewhere but not manifested in your organization. This podcast discusses the need for taking advantage of what has been learned by others in the industry to improve our own methods.

Book: Lean Software Development – Scaling Agile to the Enterprise.
We’ve added a couple of more chapters to this book – “The Business Case for Agility” and “The Big Picture.” This book is designed for Agilists who are having difficulties taking agile to the enterprise. It presents both principles and practices to succeed at extending Agile beyond the team.

Seminar: The Agile Database. Oct 23. Bellevue, WA.
In this seminar, Max Guernsey, III will demonstrate the basics of Iterative Database Development. The seminar will quickly hone in on the critical differences between database and application code in iterative development environments: how change is introduced and how the product is tested.

Webinar: The Test-Driven Database. Nov 10.
This webinar explores the critical aspects of developing a database incrementally.

Free Mini-Conference. The Atlanta Agile Open. Nov 17.
Attend conference quality presentations (not vendor talks) and open sessions to learn about management and technical issues in agile methods.

Free On-line Lean Software Development Training
Take the equivalent of a one-day Lean-Agile Software Development course on-line that I will be giving, starting in December. I am providing this at no charge because I strongly feel people need to know how Lean-Agile is much more powerful than Agile without Lean and I believe this is the best way to spread the word.
